Core: Boost PP Core
Deck: IXL PE Dura Slick
Stringer: S5 Stringer
Features: Nose Bulbs, Deck Contours, Graduated Channels, Crescent Tail
The Shield is the most basic of all the Mid Range boards, however still has many of the features found on Pro Model boards. The PP Core is the benchmark in bodyboard core technology. It is not as brittle as the cheaper EPS Cores, and is stiffer and more durable than PE Cores. It is also lightweight and waterproof. This makes this board much better suited to more high performance bodyboarding.
The PP Core is then strengthened by a Carbon Fibre S5 Stringer System. This allows the board to flex, but ensure that it will always return to a flat position. The Shield also has Nose Bulbs for grip, and graduated channels to help the rider hold their line in hollow waves.
As a general guide, a bodyboard should go to the rider's belly button. apart from that, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing the correct size board. Generally bigger boards are faster, but not as easy to control, and generally suited to smaller waves and beginners. On the other hand smaller boards are a bit harder to generate speed, however, have greater control and are ideal for bigger waves and more advanced riders.
As a guide, please refer to the table below. If you're a beginner, you are probably best suited to a size in which you fall in the lower end of the weight range. ie. 40kg beginner would be best suited to 38", not 36".
