WHAT HAS NICK GORNALL BEEN UP TO OVER THE PAST YEAR: I Clocked up some serious Km’s slash altitude mileage in the past 12 months. Was a roller coaster for the first 6 months, kicking off on the North Shore of Oahu. I have mixed emotions about that part of the world these days as crowds are a thing of the past for me. Although we still managed to a get some awesome clips from the joint as seen in the Take Down Tour clip of the Stealth boys in Hawaii and waiting on Liquid Aloha a movie produced and filmed by Todd Barnes and Tyge Landa. I’m really happy with my surfing in this so I’m amping for the public to see it!

Then straight after that I was off to my favourite destination where I never miss a year down to the Desert in South Oz where I released the solo clip called Fried Up. Off to America straight after for our Bodysurfing movie premiere of The Bodysurfing Movie we released in San Diego where it took out 1st place at the San Diego Film Festival. After that I was down South Coast for while shooting with Tyge Landa then straight over to Tassie with him to take on Shipsterns, where we released the footage on my Bearded Lady promo clip. Next was the North to South Slice Up clip which saw myself, George, Jake, and Creed heading down the east coast sinking beers and surfing sick wedges. New Zealand was next, we scored this pumping left wedge and checked out the South Island and potential future set up. We wrapped off the year in Africa for the “Aussie Buccanears” tour for 3 weeks getting some fun waves. The highlight was a pumping day at J Bay where I got a silly pit that went viral online. Then it was simply back to the warm beaches on the Gold Coast for summer and rest was family time.

BEST TRIP YOU’VE BEEN ON AND WHY?
All time favourite for waves was India hands down. No one around, turquoise pipes with woman in burkas cheering you on on the pier at this particular wave. No booze allowed on this Island so it’s a really nice relaxing focused trip with bullshit food.

BEST WAVE YOU’VE EVER CAUGHT?
A beautiful beast out Chopes one afternoon, or the wave that I got at J bay a few months ago.

GNARLIEST THING YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR / WORST THING THAT’S HAPPENED?
Had a bloody good run this year as far as travel, health good so its hard to pin point something in particular but the most annoying thing was the two days it took to get to Africa and Jakes dumb wave out at The Right!

WHO’S BEEN RIPPING THE HARDEST?
Stones been ripping super hard.
So has Port Mac super grommy Shayden - he’s been producing solid clean surfing.

Nick vs Jake out Blackrock late last year.

ANY OTHER GROMS STEPPING UP?
Besides Shayden, Marli Dunn is still leading the charge.

WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU BEEN DOING APART FROM BODYBOARDING?
I’ve been going exploring and camping in the wilderness quite alot with my partner. I’ve also been to some stupid places this year around the Blue Mountains, New England Tables and many national parks up the east coast, hiding out for around a week at a time. Followed closely about trying to plan some trips this, then followed closely by pool and beer.

This is what Nick likes to do in his time off

WHAT ARE TWO FAVOURITE SHOTS OF YOURSELF?
An Invert poster that I had in Movement at my favourite wedge of all time in the desert shot by Nick Bannher. Then I guess you could say the last Riptide Cover that I got in the Cook Islands, a place I’ve been to now 5 times and really have settled in there well, with its amazing locals and bodyboarding slabs, I just love the joint.

ANY NEW TATTOOS ?
I got a Giraffe on my last day in Africa off this legend Wez who loved booging. Tattoo of the giraffe was because we meet this tamed giraffe in Africa and he was just this big friendly beautiful thing, Gambert.

PLANS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD ?

Working on them as we speak. Not too sold on Hawaii this year so might try get some new waves down the desert with the Stealth boys then grab a swell in Ireland mid march hopefully to work on this short film with James Kates. The rest you’ll just have to wait and see because there’s going to be some cool shit coming out.

ARE YOU MORE OF A HUNTER OR GATHERER?
Gatherer man. Have quite the green thumb on me and haven't eaten animals besides the odd piece of fish in a long time.

Here's some bonus Old School G, we've been digging!
